The killed Army jawan has been identified as Khamliyong Khap and he hailed from Dimapur.

Digital Desk: An army jawan was reportedly trampled to death by a wild elephant at a cantonment in Guwahati.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night at the Indian Army's Narengi cantonment in Guwahati.

Khamliyong Khap, a native of Dimapur, has been named as the deceased Army jawan.

According to sources, the jawan who suffered critical injuries during the elephant attack was taken to the Army Base Hospital at Basistha in Guwahati, where he passed away.

Elephants frequently leave the surrounding Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary in search of food.

Elephants in the wild can frequently be seen roaming around the Cantonment area.

Alongside an elephant corridor is where you'll find the Narengi Army Cantonment. The Cantonment region is traversed by the elephant corridor.

In search of food in November 2019, a wild elephant wandered into a canteen within the Cantonment.

A video that went popular on social media in October of last year shows a wild jumbo playing and having fun on a playground at the Cantonment.
