They further stated that the Regional Committee in each of these three districts will be notified within the next 15 days and that these committees will be led by the Cabinet Ministers of both states.

Digital Desk: On August 20, the state governments of Meghalaya and Assam resumed their second phase boundary settlement negotiations in six additional areas of contention in an effort to find a long-term resolution to their ongoing border issues.

Conrad K. Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, and Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, among other officials, attended the meeting, which was held today at the Assam Secretariat.

Block I, Block II, Khanduli, Langpih, Borduar, and Mawtamur are among the six areas of contention that still need to be addressed in order to find a lasting solution. These districts are Ri Bhoi District, West Khasi Hills, and East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya.

Speaking to the media, the chief ministers of both neighbouring states said that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, which outlined the first phase of the boundary settlement, in front of Union Minister Amit Shah, marked a historic moment for both of the states' completion and fulfilment of residents of these conflicted areas.

They added that although this second phase is also difficult to resolve, the state government will find a solution by taking the views of the residents of these areas into consideration. They further stated that the Regional Committee in each of these three districts will be notified within the next 15 days and that these committees will be led by the Cabinet Ministers of both states.

The Chief Minister added that since the boundary settlement of this phase is complicated, the state government has not set in any time frame for bringing in the solution but hopefully the settlement will be completed as soon as possible. "In this phase since some areas are also located in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council jurisdiction so the members of the KAAC will be part of these Regional committees," the Chief Minister added.
