As per the CM, all children should be taught science, arithmetic, biology, botany, and zoology to become doctors, engineers, professors, and scientists in the future.

Digital Desk: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Sunday that the word “Madrasa” should cease to exist while stressing the “general education” in schools for all.

According to reports, the chief minister speaking at an event in Delhi, said that children will not be able to think about becoming doctors and engineers as long as the word “madrasa” exists.

“If you tell them that studying in madrasas will prevent them from becoming doctors or engineers, they will refuse to go”, Sarma said.

He added, “Teach your children the Quran, but only at home. Admitting minors to madrasas is a violation of their human rights.”

As per the CM, all children should be taught science, arithmetic, biology, botany, and zoology to become doctors, engineers, professors, and scientists in the future.

Sarma stated in response to a question that students in madrasas are exceptionally talented and can easily memorise every word of the Quran; he said, “All Muslims were Hindus. No one was born a Muslim (in India). Everyone was a Hindu in India. So, if a Muslim child is extremely meritorious, I will give partial credit to his Hindu past.”

It may be mentioned that earlier in 2020; the Assam government decided to dissolve all the government-run madrassas and convert them into general education institutions to facilitate a secular education system.

Following this, the Gauhati High Court upheld the Assam Repealing Act, 2020, which mandated the conversion of all provincial (government-funded) madrassas in the state into regular schools in the same year.
