Digital Desk: After serving six years in prison, former APSC Chairman Rakesh Pal has been granted bail by the Gauhati High Court on March 24.
On March 22, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed the House that 57 state employees from the 2013, 2015, and 2016 batches had been detained and fired for allegedly participating in a "pay for job scam."
Three additional people have been promoted to approver status, the Assam Chief Minister added.
The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) tests were passed by 60 people who have since become the subject of an investigation. In response to a question from Congress Legislator Bharat Chandra Nath, Sarma stated that 57 out of the 60 involved in the APSC cash for job fraud had been detained and released from their positions.
''Three other officials agreed to become approvers and they are under suspension at present,'' he added.
Sarma added that the government has not yet approved the Justice BK Sharma Commission's report on the issue, which was sent to a committee for assessment.
Since 2016, the Assam Police have detained around 70 people, including the APSC's former Chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul and 57 civil service employees, as part of their investigation into a cash-for-jobs scandal.
