The SP added that the Canadian National had been in Assam since 2021. He was sent back to Canada's Toronto from New Delhi by the authorities.

Digital Desk: A Canadian national was deported to his home country by the Assam police for allegedly engaging in proselytising, an attempt to convert people from one religion to another. Assam police in a statement on Friday said that the Canadian man, Brandon Joel Dewalt was living in Jorhat district on a tourist visa, which expired on January 17, 2025.

Jorhat Superintendent of Police (SP) Shwetank Mishra said that Brandon had applied for a visa renewal, however, police arrested him following a complaint for alleged involvement in the religious conversion activities at the Grace Church of Mission Campus, Jorhat. A report was also sent to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Kolkata.

The SP added that the Canadian National had been in Assam since 2021. He was sent back to Canada's Toronto from New Delhi by the authorities.

Mishra said that Brandon was trying to convert locals of Jorhat to his religion by using a YouTube channel. The YouTube channel was later deactivated by the authorities after his alleged involvement in proselytisation activities.
