Apart from the Yaba tablets, police in Karimganj seized over 900kg of cannabis in two separate operations on Monday.

Digital Desk: Assam's Cachar police have arrested three people on suspicion of smuggling 5,000 Yaba tablets from Mizoram for distribution in the region.

Yaba tablet is primarily manufactured in Southeast Asia and is a combination of methamphetamine, a powerful and addictive stimulant, and caffeine. Yaba is Thai for insane.

According to Debabrata Phukan, the officer in charge of the Rangirkhari police outpost, the three men, all Mizoram residents, were arrested from a hotel in Silchar on Sunday night following a tip about some people selling narcotics in the district.

"Our team pursued the peddlers and apprehended them from a hotel in Silchar town." "They told us during the interrogation that they brought the tablets from Mizoram and were supposed to supply them to some local buyers in Barak Valley," Phukan said.

Police seized 5,000 tablets kept in 50 containers at their request. Lalduhawma (36), Sawliana TC (34) and Sangtia (34) were identified as the three men (31). Lalduhawma lives in Mizoram's Aizawl district, while the other two live in Champhai district, which is 200 kilometres away.

On Monday, the Border Security Force and Karimgang police seized 20,000 Yaba tablets from the Jabainpur area and arrested Juyel Namasudra.

Apart from the Yaba tablets, police in Karimganj seized over 900kg of cannabis in two separate operations on Monday.

Padmanabh Baruah, superintendent of police in Karimganj district, stated that this was the third such large catch in a month. "We suspect that some cultivation is taking place in Tripura, or that these products are being transported from outside India." "We're questioning the arrested people to get more information," Baruah said.

Police also seized 28,230kg of subsidised fertiliser from the Assam government that was being illegally transported to Nagaland. According to police, three vehicles were transporting subsidised fertilisers allotted to farmers in Assam to Mizoram and Nagaland.
