Digital Desk: Assam has increased security as militant groups such as the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland/Government of the People's Republic of Nagaland (NSCN/GPRN) have urged for a boycott of Independence Day celebrations.
Reports from sources say that state police have implemented normal security measures, including area dominance and naka checks. The precautions are being made to ensure that the festivities are not disrupted.
According to sources, no risks are being taken after militant groups called for a boycott and bandh.
The central celebration will take place in Guwahati, where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will hoist the National Flag. Security personnel are looking into every facet of security measures. Similar events are planned across the state, including participation from other ministers and other officials.
Earlier on Saturday, the ULFA-(I) issued an email urging people in Assam, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh to 'boycott' the Independence Day celebrations on August 15. The ULFA (I) and NSCN/GPRN have also called for a bandh from midnight on August 15 until 6 p.m. that day, with emergency services, media services, and religious activities exempt from the general strike.
