3,000 tents and other aid will be delivered, according to Zhao Lijian, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry.
Digital Desk: To support Pakistan, which is
suffering from catastrophic flooding in several areas of the nation, China on
Tuesday sent two of its largest military cargo aircraft, the Y-20?
The aeroplane, which has a cargo capacity of
over 60 tonnes, departed from a Sichuan airfield in southwest China a day after
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent Arif Alvi in Pakistan a message of sympathy
over the floods.
On Tuesday night, the plane was supposed to
land in Karachi.
3,000 tents and other aid will be delivered, according to
Zhao Lijian, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry.
Zhao was quoted as saying at the regular
ministry briefing on Tuesday that "China and Pakistan have been sharing
weal and woe for a long time, reaching out to each other and responding to
major challenges like natural disasters side by side. We are all-weather
strategic cooperative partners and 'ironclad' friends.
Zhao stated that China responded right away
and would keep giving Pakistan the "greatly required" assistance in
the event of a calamity.
According to the state-run tabloid Global Times, two
additional Chinese planes will deliver another shipment of supplies to Pakistan
on Wednesday.
The current floods in Pakistan brought on by
this season's monsoon rains, which began in mid-June, have affected more than
33 million people and 72 districts, according to a report on Tuesday from
China's Xinhua news agency.
According to a report issued by Pakistan's
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and cited by Xinhua, the southern
Sindh province of the country has continued to be the worst-hit area, with the
floods affecting 23 of its districts and more than 14.5 million residents.
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) air force will be
sending Y-20 freight aircraft to Pakistan for the second time: In 2020, the
locally produced cargo aircraft made its first overseas flight, travelling to
Pakistan to give aid for the Covid-19 pandemic.
Six Y-20 aircraft flew to Afghanistan in July
to give supplies after an earthquake that left at least,000 dead and tens of
thousands displaced.
Chinese national media CCTV stated that over the course
of three days, the PLA aircraft delivered about 105 tonnes of assistance.
