Digital Desk: The threat of Covid continues to create chaos among the people of the nation. Keeping in concern, the Supreme Court of India has decided to conduct virtual hearings from January 3, 2022.

This initiative for virtual conduct of hearings is taken to limit the spread of Omicron cases in the state. This mode of hearings will continue for two weeks, starting from today.

A decision was taken to discontinue the hybrid method of hearing given the rising Omicron variant. All hearings would take place in virtual mode only.

A circular was issued on Sunday regarding this news. Because of the "alarming and unsettling" rise in Covid-19 cases, the Delhi High Court chose to conduct the proceedings through virtual mode only in courts across the national capital between January 3 and 15, stated the circular release.

The Supreme court will reopen today after winter vacation. However, physical mode of hearings will not take place. On October 7, 2021, it issued an SOP saying that issues needing lengthy hearings will be carried out on Wednesdays and Thursdays for physical hearing.

To bypass overcrowding on various days like Mondays and Fridays, hearing of cases was done via virtual mode only, and on Tuesdays, it was through a hybrid standard.

The Supreme Court has been hearing cases via video-conferencing since March 2020 due to the pandemic. The October 7, 2021 SOP was given after several bar organizations and attorneys insisted that physical hearings continue as there was a decline in coronavirus cases.

The national capital has recorded 3,194 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which was 15 % higher than Saturday. The threat of the new Omicron variant is creating chaos among people with its surge. Most of the nation's major states have already issued curbs for precautions.
