The arrival of a snow leopard cub and four red panda cubs at the Darjeeling Zoo was a great delight for the zoo's officials...

Digital Desk: A snow leopard baby was born at Darjeeling Zoo in West Bengal. She is the oldest snow leopard to give birth in the last three decades of the species' conservation breeding programme, at the age of 13 years and three months.

The snow leopard, Zima, gave birth to a cub on July 28, reveals the director of the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park in Darjeeling.

Meanwhile, on April 15, two red pandas, Teesta and Nira, gave birth to two cubs each at the Singalila National Park in Darjeeling.

The mothers and cubs are being closely monitored from a safe distance, according to the director.

The Darjeeling Zoo management shared videos of the red pandas embracing inside the bark of a tree. Another video showed two leopards having fun, with one of them biting off the bark of a tree on the ground.

The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is the country's only speciality zoo and is worldwide recognised for its conservation breeding operations for red pandas, snow leopards, Tibetan wolves, and other critically endangered Himalayan animal species.

The zoo has been successful in developing viable captive breeding programmes for these critically endangered species, focusing on producing animals that can thrive in mountainous habitats.

The zoo, which covers an area of 67.56 acres, is the country's largest high-altitude zoo and draws roughly 300,000 people every year, acting not only as a tourist attraction but also as an educational centre for scientific study and species conservation.
