Digital Desk: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has changed the dates for the assembly elections in the two northeastern states.
The election dates for Tripura and Meghalaya were interchanged in a notification issued by the ECI on Friday.
Tripura's polling date has been changed from February 16 to February 27. Now Tripura will vote on the same day as Nagaland.
On the other hand, Meghalaya will go to the polls on February 16 instead of the previously scheduled date, i.e., February 27.
On January 18, the ECI released the election schedule for Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura, the first batch of assembly elections to be held in 2023. Chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar stated that the exam season was taken into consideration when setting the election dates.
All three elections will be held in a single phase.
The terms of all three state assemblies, each of which has 60 members, end in March.
