Kamalpur: In a tragic road accident, a speeding van killed a man in Panitema, Kamalpur in Kamrup district, late Tuesday night.
Reportedly, the man identified as Ratan Nath, a delivery boy of Sonaram Gas Company, was on his way home after completing his duty when the Maruti van coming from the opposite direction crushed him under its rear wheels fled from the spot.

Severely injured Ratan Nath was then taken to the hospital; however, he was declared brought dead by the medical authorities.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle absconds from the accident spot after the incident.
According to the locals, the van has been supplying illegal alcohol in the area for a long time.

The locals have also claimed that wine bottles were recovered from the accident spot.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a search operation for the absconding driver of the Maruti van. An investigation into the incident is underway.
