Digital Desk: The IMD Guwahati has issued a weather alert for several districts in Assam, forecasting moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Areas including Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, and others are expected to experience these conditions in the next three hours, adding to the challenges posed by the ongoing monsoon.

Tragically, the toll from the floods has risen further, with two additional fatalities reported in Karimganj district, bringing the total number of lives lost to 93, as confirmed by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Despite some improvement in the flood situation, nearly 5.98 lakh people across 18 districts continue to be affected, underscoring the persistent severity of the disaster.

Relief efforts are underway with over 58,000 individuals taking shelter in 172 relief camps and distribution centers across 13 districts. The impact on livestock has been significant, with 283,712 domestic animals affected and 232 reported washed away in recent days.

The aftermath has left a trail of destruction, with 161 houses fully destroyed and 6,663 partially damaged. Moreover, 13 roads have been swept away by floodwaters, compounding the infrastructure challenges.
