Digital Desk: Jawaharlal Nehru University appointed its first- female vice-chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit. Professor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit is from Savitribai Phule Pune University. Pandit will be replacing the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor M Jagdesh Kumar. On this appointment, Professor Kumar stated, “It gives me satisfaction to announce that Professor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit from the Department of Politics and Public Administration, Savitribai Phule Pune University, has been designated as the next vice-chancellor of JNU. She is the first woman vice-chancellor of JNU.” Moreover, Professor M Jagdesh Kumar is currently designated as the chairman of the University Grants Commission. In terms of the first woman VC of JNU, Professor Pandit was born in USSR, Russia, on July 15, 1962. She has been associated with research work and teaching since 1988. In addition, she has laid crucial platforms for various associations under research work. Also Read: Fatal car crash: Nine family members of a wedding party killed Professor Pandit is also actively linked with prestigious organizations, such as the American Studies Research Institute, Hyderabad, the Indian Association of American Studies, the All India Political Science Association, the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, the Indian Secular Society, etc. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit is also known for her authored books. She has written books like Parliament and Foreign Policy in India’ (1990) and ‘Restructuring Environmental governance in Asia-Ethics and Policy’ 2003. Pandit carries a certification in social work from California State University, Longbeach, USA. She also completed her BA in History and Social Psychology and – MA in Political Science from Presidency College, Madras. Moreover, Pandit is also an alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University. She has completed her MPhil and PhD in International Relations for the university.  The 59-year-old is known for multilingual abilities. Pandit is fluent in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Sanskrit, Marathi and English and can comprehend Kananda, Malayalam and Konkani.
