Digital Desk: Students study for the Union Public Service Commission's Civil Services Exam for several years. Many hopefuls seek tuition to help them prepare for the examinations, while others rely on self-study. Today, we will discuss how Rukmani Riar, a native of Gurdaspur in Punjab, studied for the UPSC test without coaching and achieved her ambition of becoming an IAS officer by earning the second place in all of India in her first try.
Rukmani Riar was not a very good student, she failed in the sixth grade. She was embarrassed to think about what the rest of the people would say about her failure after she did not dare to go in front of family members and teachers. This made her tense. After a few months, she drew herself out of it and turned dread into her inspiration.
Rukmani Riar had her early schooling at Gurdaspur. She then enrolled in the fourth grade at Sacred Heart School in Dalhousie. Rukmani earned a bachelor's degree in social science from Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar after finishing high school. She then went on to acquire a Master's degree in social sciences at the Tata Institute in Mumbai, where she won a gold medal.

Following her post-graduate studies, Rukmani Riar interned at NGOs like as Ashodaya in Mysore and Annapurna Mahila Mandal in Mumbai, in addition to the Planning Commission. Rukmani was interested in public service at the time and planned to take the UPSC examinations.
Rukmani Riar began preparing for the Civil Service Exam after completing her internship and was successful on her first try through hard effort. She did not attend any coaching sessions to prepare for the UPSC test, instead relying on self-study. Rukmani obtained AIR2 in UPSC in 2011 and realised her ambition of becoming an IAS officer.
Rukmani Riar studied NCERT books from 6th to 12th grade to prepare for the UPSC test, and she read newspapers and journals on a regular basis to prepare for the interview. Rukmini took multiple practise exams in order to reduce errors during the exam. Rukmani also completed the previous years' exam papers.
