Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said that he will not share the platform with Prime Minister Narendra Modi...

Digital Desk: On October 23, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said that he would not share the platform with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter's visit to the state for assembly election campaigning.

On October 30, the Prime Minister is set to visit Mamit to encourage the BJP candidates. The recent unrest in Manipur and the suspected burning of hundreds of churches by the Meitei minority were cited as grounds for Zoramthanga's decision, and he stated that partnering with the BJP would be a big disadvantage for his party, MNF.

"Mizoram's people are all Christians." When the people of Manipur (Meities) torched hundreds of churches in Manipur, the Mizos were completely opposed to the concept. "Sympathy with the BJP at this time will be a major negative for my party," the Chief Minister stated in an interview with BBC News.

"It will be better if the prime minister comes along and he shares the platform by himself, and I take the stage separately by myself," he went on to say.

Despite being a member of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and a Centre ally, MNF does not work with the BJP in Mizoram. MNF's relationship with NDA and NEDA, as stated by Zoramthanga, is owing to its hostility to the Congress, and it does not intend to be a part of any Congress-led alliance.
