Lakhimpur: The National Medical Commission (NMC) approved the setting up a new medical college in Lakhimpur, Assam. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday.
As per sources, the new medical College will provide 100 seats for MBBS students. Assam CM Sarma took to Twitter for the announcement regarding the development.
Sarma tweeted, "In a major milestone for Assam, I'm glad to share that @NMC_IND has approved a new Medical College for Lakhimpur with 100 seats for MBBS. A matter of great personal pride as I see this 8th College, I dreamt of, taking shape. Now, we've 1100 #MBBS seats for our children."

In 2020, then Education Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that forty new colleges would be constructed in all 40 Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) constituencies.
Sarma made this statement in the oath-taking ceremony of the new council of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Along with the 40 new colleges, full-fledged stadiums will additionally be established in these constituencies.
