The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform is where NCCF also intends to sell onions online, and it is now figuring out the details.

Digital Desk: In order to give relief to consumers from the high prices of kitchen essentials, the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) of India will start retail sales of onions from the government buffer stock at a give relief rate of Rs 25 per kg in the national capital on Monday.

The National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF), which currently sells tomatoes for the government at a discount, has been given the authority to sell buffer onions.

For the fiscal years 2023–2024, the government has built up a buffer stock of 3 lakh tonnes of onions. Additionally, it has chosen to purchase an additional 2 lakh tonnes of onions for the buffer this year.

"We'll first launch our buffer onion retail operation in Delhi. Our mobile vans and two retail locations will sell at a discounted rate of Rs 25 per kg," according to NCCF Managing Director Anice Joseph Chandra, who spoke to PTI.

On Monday in the nation's capital, some 10 mobile vans will be sent out, and further locations will be gradually covered. The national capital's two NCCF retail locations, which are located at Nehru Place and Okhla, will also sell the product, the source claimed.

For market involvement, the government has selected Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, and Telangana. By getting rid of buffer onion in both the wholesale and retail markets, the availability is being improved in these five states.

Buffer onions are offered for sale at mandi rates in wholesale markets, while they are only 25 rupees per kg at retail markets. She stated that while retail sales will start in the other four states after two days, they will begin in Delhi on Monday.

Official figures show that on Sunday, the average retail price of onions throughout all of India climbed by 19% to Rs 29.73 per kg from Rs 25 per kg during the same time last year.

Onion's retail price in Delhi increased from Rs 28 per kg to Rs 37 per kg over the same time period.

In Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, NCCF has been selling tomatoes at discounted prices for the past month. When costs were over Rs 250 per kg in the retail market, it initially went on sale for Rs 90 per kg. The subsidised tariff has been decreased to Rs 40 per kg now that the arrivals have improved.
