Digital Desk: A teacher at a private school in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur allegedly drilled a student's hand as a form of discipline for forgetting the "number table of 2", reports said. The accident occurred in the student's fifth-grade class at Premnagar Upper Primary School in the Kanpur district. The Sisamau resident who was the victim reportedly had left-hand injuries.

In a police complaint, the student alleged, "I was asked to recite the "Table of 2" by the teacher (name withheld). He drilled my hand as I failed to comply. Standing next to me, a fellow student immediately unplugged the drill."

The child reportedly underwent a minor treatment after being sent home from school following the event.

According to those familiar with the situation, the responsible teacher allegedly did not inform local education officials about the incident. There was a ruckus on campus because the officials weren't alerted until the victim's relatives arrived at the school.

The block education officer and the basic Shiksha Adhikari arrived at the site to look into the situation after receiving information.

A Basic Shiksha Adhikari from Kanpur Nagar, Sujit Kumar Singh, spoke about the occurrence and said, "To look into the entire issue, a committee has been established. Prem Nagar and Shastri Nagar block education officers will look into the situation and give a report. Any guilty party would face punishment."

It is to be noted that Police officers familiar with the issue said that no FIR has yet been filed. The FIR will be filed, they stated, if the family files any complaints.
