According to accounts, the incident only came to light on February 19—seven months after the brutal killing of the two—following the accused Bandana Kalita's confession of guilt.
In addition, the accused Bandana claimed that on August 17, 2022, she killed her husband Amarjyoti Dey and mother-in-law Shankari Dey with the support of her boyfriend and a friend, then cut their bodies into several pieces and put them in the refrigerator before leaving the rented house she was sharing with her deceased husband in Noonmati, Guwahati.

On August 21, 2022, Kalita returned to clean the house, removed the body pieces from the refrigerator, and dumped them in Dawki, Meghalaya.

After hearing about the occurrence, neighbours who were aware of the situation expressed their horror and confirmed that the accused, Bandana Kalita, came to clean the house last year and witnessed her burning the bed and other items of clothing on the terrace.

The accused Bandana Kalita and her two accomplish Arup Deka and Dhanjit Deka are now in the custody of Noonmati Police.

Police are currently looking into the incident and trying to figure out the motive behind the crime.
