Digital Desk: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra faced expulsion from the Lok Sabha on Friday in connection with the 'cash-for-query' case. The motion supporting her expulsion, presented by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, successfully passed through a voice vote.

Earlier, the Ethics Committee of Parliament, investigating corruption allegations against Moitra, found her guilty of accepting money in exchange for posing certain questions in Parliament. The committee's report, tabled in the Lok Sabha on Friday morning, recommended her removal from the lower house.

The expulsion followed a heated debate in the Lok Sabha, where Opposition MPs, including Congress's Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, sought additional time to review the ethics panel's findings. The opposition also pressed for Moitra to address the House during the debate, a request ultimately denied by Speaker Om Birla. The unfolding events highlight the gravity of the 'cash-for-query' scandal and its impact on parliamentary proceedings.
