After experiencing severe stomach swelling and being unable to defecate upon arriving in his village, he went to the hospital for a checkup. After doing an x-ray, doctors found the steel glass in his intestine. They tried to get it out of his rectum, but when that didn't work, they had to operate.

The procedure was carried out by a team of doctors led by professor Charan Panda, head of the hospital's surgical department, including assistant professor Sanjit Kumar Nayak and doctors Subrat Baral, Satyaswarup, and Pratibha. To get the steel glass, they sliced into the gut.
