On December 28, 1995, the insurgent group was formed to liberate Kamtapur from India by slicing off six West Bengal districts, four adjoining Assam districts, and one district each of Bihar and Nepal.
It aims to solve the problems faced by the Koch-Rajbongshi people, including alleged neglect of the Kamtapuri language, economic deprivation, unemployment, etc.
Recently, 46 Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) members, including its military chief, had come to the mainstream.
Additionally, in July, 23 militants of the National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) joined the mainstream, including some top leaders.
Moreover, the Assam government is trying to reach the separatist organization ULFA-I through back channels to initiate a peace process.
