Jorabat, Assam: A faculty member at Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) in Tepesia has reportedly tendered his resignation following a serious allegation of sexual harassment lodged by a student, prompting the Sonapur Police to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter. The incident, which allegedly occurred on June 10, has also sparked significant student protests, bringing the institution's internal grievance redressal mechanisms under intense scrutiny.
The complaint centers on a 19-year-old second-semester Bachelor of Arts student from Arunachal Pradesh, enrolled in Public Administration. She has accused Dr. Saurabh Chandra, the Head of the Public Administration Department, of misconduct during a meeting in his office. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed at Sonapur Police Station, the student had approached Dr. Chandra seeking reconsideration for an attendance shortage and academic relief when the alleged incident took place.
In her detailed complaint, the student alleged that the faculty member subjected her to unwelcome physical advances and exploited his position of authority. She further stated that the incident left her feeling deeply distressed, humiliated, and fearful, particularly given Dr. Chandra's direct academic control over her. The gravity of the allegations has led to demands for the preservation of crucial evidence, including CCTV footage, electronic records, and other relevant institutional documents, to aid the ongoing police probe.
The unfolding situation has ignited calls for accountability and transparency within the university, with student bodies demanding swift and impartial justice. Authorities are now tasked with examining the allegations thoroughly and ensuring due process is followed.
