Digital Desk: A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in West Bengal that the Centre will implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as soon as the coronavirus pandemic is over, Assam activist turned politician Akhil Gogoi threatened the ruling BJP at the centre and in the state, saying he and his supporters will once again take to the streets in protest. Mr Gogoi, who is also an independent MLA, believes the people will never accept this "anti-people" law.

"The Assamese people would not accept the Centre's dictation on CAA," he told the press, describing it as a "draconian act" that "has no place in Assam."

Akhil Gogoi also warned the top leaders of the BJP led government that without any delay and further stretchn it should understand that the entire population demands the drop of the “draconian act”, CAA without any delay.

"We'll take to the streets, and my political party, Raijor Dal, will spearhead new anti-CAA rallies if the centre goes ahead with the implementation. This is an anti-people measure, and I want to emphasise that we will not accept any CAA dictation "he stated

Akhil Gogoi, Raijor Dal Supremo and Sivasagar MLA, earned headlines for leading enormous protests against Assam's controversial citizenship bill. He was accused under the strict anti-terror law UAPA after being arrested in connection with violent protests in the state in 2019. He was imprisoned for about a year and a half before being elected to the state legislature as an MLA.
