Five new medical colleges will be built by the government in Golaghat, Bongaigaon, Marigaon, Tamulpur, and Dhemaji this month, and work will start on three further medical colleges in Sivasagar, Karimganj, and Goalpara very shortly. Assam will establish 24 medical colleges in total within the next five years, significantly increasing the state's access to physicians and medical treatment, according to the Assam Chief Minister.

The number of MBBS seats has increased from 726 in 2014 to 1200 in 2022, according to the Chief Minister of Assam, who also stated this on Friday.

Similar to this, 44 super-specialty seats are presently open in a number of Assam government-run institutions. Additionally, the state will have 2700 MBBS seats after the new medical institutions' construction is complete, greatly improving Assam's ability to offer medical education, according to Sarma.
