Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Silchar are poised for significant economic upliftment as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) commits to supporting a comprehensive study for their City Economic Region Development Plans (CERDP). This initiative aims to craft evidence-based economic development roadmaps, meticulously identifying key growth drivers, essential infrastructure requirements, promising investment opportunities, necessary policy reforms, and robust institutional mechanisms to foster accelerated and sustainable growth across these vital urban centers of Assam.
The overarching goal of the CERDP study is to transform these three cities into competitive and investment-ready growth hubs. As part of this detailed assessment, the study will delve into various critical aspects, including an evaluation of existing economic clusters, an analysis of workforce capabilities, an exploration of market potential, and an identification of urban infrastructure gaps. These insights are crucial for formulating long-term development strategies that are both informed and impactful.
In a significant step towards actualizing this plan, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota recently held deliberations on the proposed roadmap. The high-level meeting, which took place on Wednesday, saw the participation of Mio Oka, Country Director for the India Resident Mission of the Asian Development Bank, representatives from Deloitte, and senior officers from the State government. Discussions centered on laying the groundwork for the study and ensuring its strategic alignment with the state's development objectives.
This ADB-backed endeavor is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future economic landscape of Assam, driving urban prosperity and attracting further investments into the region.
