  • DCP Amitabh Basumatary Refutes Claims of Police Brutality at Commerce Point

Digital Desk: The alleged torture of a youth by Chandmari police for not wearing a helmet had surfaced on social media on July 11.

Addressing the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amitabh Basumatary clarified the sequence of events.

According to DCP Basumatary, during a routine checkpoint inspection at Commerce Point, Guwahati on July 9, police personnel asked a young man named Aman Ali to stop.

Instead of complying with the police, Aman attempted to flee and allegedly attacked a constable. Following the constable's request, Aman Ali was released from custody.

Subsequently, the youth filed a complaint at the Geetanagar police station.

However, a medical examination revealed that Aman Ali had not been assaulted by the Chandmari police.

The investigation revealed that his injuries occurred when he fell off his scooter while attempting to park his two-wheeler.

His claim that the Chandmari police assaulted him using the scooter's hot silencer was baseless.

DCP Basumatary emphasized that the Assam Police prioritize public safety and that thorough evidence had been gathered during the investigation.

He also noted that Aman Ali had pre-existing injuries prior to the incident and was in good health when released from custody.
