Digital Desk: In Bengaluru, the city has witnessed a surge in dengue cases, with 172 cases reported between May 1 and May 13. The state health department disclosed that Karnataka has confirmed 2,877 cases as of May 13, a significant increase compared to last year's 1,725 cases during the same period.
To combat the spread of the disease, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has taken proactive measures. The Special Commissioner for Health, Suralkar Vikas Kishore, mentioned the formation of four teams for each ward to conduct fogging and disinfectant spraying. These teams are tasked with identifying and addressing potential mosquito breeding sites to prevent water stagnation.
Dr. Dinesh V Kamath, Senior Consultant at Manipal Hospital, highlighted the heightened risk of dengue for pregnant women and children due to increased activity in these groups. He emphasised the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding grounds and ensuring children are fully clothed to minimise exposure to mosquito bites during the day.
In cases where dengue progresses to severe stages, early hospitalisation is crucial, as symptoms can escalate rapidly. Patients with dengue typically exhibit platelet counts ranging from 1.5 to 4.5 lakh, and any decline necessitates daily monitoring to ensure timely intervention.
