Pritirekha Baruah, a prominent and deeply respected social worker and community leader from Sivasagar’s Phukan Nagar, passed away on August 18 at a hospital in Dibrugarh due to age-related complications. Her demise has cast a pall of gloom across the community she tirelessly served, leaving a significant void.

Known for her unwavering spirit and social commitment, Baruah demonstrated remarkable courage throughout her life. After losing her husband at a young age, she single-handedly raised and educated her two sons. Simultaneously, she pursued her own academic aspirations, completing her graduation by attending night college while also working at the Junior Technical School, from where she later retired.

A woman of strong conviction and religious devotion, Baruah was actively involved in numerous social welfare initiatives, dedicating her time and energy to various causes. She was a particularly dedicated member of ‘Jonali Chora,’ contributing significantly to community betterment projects and inspiring many. Her presence was deeply felt in Phukan Nagar and the surrounding areas.

She is survived by her two sons, Sumanta and Srimanta, along with her two daughters-in-law and three grandchildren. The community fondly remembers her as a beacon of social consciousness and an embodiment of perseverance.
