Digital Desk: Today 12th December, the ex-Home Minister of India and senior Congress Party member Shivraj Patil passed away at his residence, ‘Devghar,’ in Latur, Maharashtra.Shivraj Patil was 90 years old at the time of his death. According to family sources, he had been ill.
Patil is survived by his son Shailesh Patil, daughter-in-law Archana Patil, a BJP leader, and two granddaughters. Leaders across the political spectrum, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other ministers, expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.
A Glimpse into Shivraj Patil’s Life
Born on 12th October 12, 1935, Shivraj Patil began his political journey as the municipal council chief of Latur and was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in the early 1970s. He went on to represent the Latur Lok Sabha constituency seven times, though he lost to BJP’s Rupatai Patil Nilangekar in the 2004 general elections.
Patil held several key positions in his long and distinguished political career. He served as the 10th Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1991 to 1996 and later as Union Home Minister from 2004 to 2008. In addition, he was the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh from 2010 to 2015.
Known for his dignified conduct and commitment to public service, Patil was widely respected for never indulging in personal attacks, either in public or private.
