Today marks the 120th birthday of PK Rosy, Malayalam cinema's first female actor...

Digital Desk: Google created a doodle to honour PK Rosy, the first female lead in Malayalam cinema. Rosy was born in Nandankode village, Trivandrum, to a Pulaya family named Rosamma. Rosy spent her childhood as a grass-cutter because she came from a poor household and was more destitute when her father died when she was young.

She, on the other hand, has always had a passion for art and learned both acting and 'Kakkarashi' (a folk-dance theatre) at an early age. She was already a member of a theatrical group in Thiruvananthapuram when director J C Daniel noticed her talent during a performance.

Rosy's interest in acting began at a young age. Rosy broke barriers in an era when performing arts were discouraged in many areas of society, particularly for women, with her role in the Malayalam film Vigathakumaran (The Lost Child).

Though she never earned acclaim for her work, Rosy's experience is important to discussions concerning media representation.
Many people are motivated and inspired by her story today.

PK Rosy's legacy has been effectively maintained and is praiseworthy for future generations.
