Digital Desk: Google is implementing new Play Store policies to prevent third-party apps from using the Accessibility API to improve user safety and privacy.
Changes and updates to its developer policies include the ability to disable remote call audio recording, which is a popular feature among Android users.
According to GSM Arena, these changes aim to improve privacy and security, as call recording laws vary widely around the world. However, the change will not affect the system or pre-installed apps that already have access to the Accessibility API.
"The Accessibility API is not designed for and cannot be requested for remote call audio recording," as per the updated Play Store policies clause.
Given the importance of user privacy and security, it is believed that one of the major reasons could be the differences in call recording laws in different countries. Previously, Apple's iPhone did not provide users with the option of native call recording.
Reports stated that this change would only affect third-party apps on the Play Store that use the Accessibility API to enable call recording. The Google Phone app, which includes built-in call recording, is not affected by the change.
