Digital Desk: The Guwahati Press Club (GPC) has issued a strong warning to a group of journalists who have been involved in the unlawful and unauthorised collecting of money from press conference and event organisers.
"It has been brought to our attention that a section of journalists attending press conferences/book releases/events at Gauhati Press Club has been demanding money from the organisers against coverage of the event," said GPC President Manoj Kumar Nath and General Secretary Sanjoy Ray in a joint statement.
The GPC strongly condemned such vile crimes and underlined that "GPC would not allow any such immoral behaviour on the part of any journalist."
"We hereby issue a serious warning to those concerned that such malpractices will be strictly prosecuted." Such erring journalists would not only lose their membership, but they would also be forbidden from entering the GPC premises, according to the statement.
The GPC authorities supplied four phone numbers (8011745999, 7002555736, 8749870769, 8486740848) to coordinators who encounter any such illegal demand.
The statement further mentioned, "Based on some complaints received, we have identified a few such persons, and action would be initiated against them."
