When the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, Justice Velumurugan expressed his displeasure with the producers' council for failing to submit any written affidavits on the request for the past two years and ordered it to pay Rs 1 lakh to the register by March 31.

bfc2 Digital Desk: The Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council has been fined Rs 1 lakh by the Madras high court for failing to file any affidavits in a defamation case filed by actor T R Silambarasan, better known as Simbu, for the past two years. Justice P Velmurugan issued the orders on hearing a defamation complaint brought by the actor seeking Rs 1 crores as damages from producer Michael Rayappan, who had bankrolled one of Silambarasan's films, for allegedly spreading false information against him. When the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, Justice Velumurugan expressed his displeasure with the producers' council for failing to submit any written affidavits on the request for the past two years and ordered it to pay Rs. 1 lakh to the register by March 31. Notably, Silambarasan filed the case after Michel Rayappan filed an appeal with the producers' council, requesting Silambarasan to compensate the producer for the loss suffered in creating the Tamil film 'Anbanavan, Adangathavan, Asarathavan' (AAA), in which the actor played the major part. On the other hand, Silambarasan requested the South Indian Artistes Association, also known as Nadigar Sangam, to interfere in the matter, claiming that Rayappan had not paid Rs 6 crores the agreed amount for the film.  The court also named Vishal Krishna Reddy, the then-president of the Film Producers' Council, and the Film Producers' Council as respondents in the lawsuit.
