Expressing deep sorrow, IFALPA conveyed its “sincere condolences and sympathies” to the victims’ families and those affected
Digital Desk: The International Federation of Air Line Pilots or Air Line Pilots Association (IFALPA) has offered to assist the Indian aviation officials in their analysis of the tragic Air India aircraft crash, which occurred at Ahmedabad on 12th June. IFALPA, in a letter addressed to Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau ( AAIB) Director General G.V.G. Yugandhar, volunteered to provide its technical know-how and international best practices to support the ongoing investigation.
It was on June 12 that Air India Flight 171, flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed a few seconds after takeoff. The disaster claimed over 270 lives, including passengers and people on the ground, making the accident one of the worst air accidents in Indian history.
Speaking with profound sorrow, IFALPA said that it offered its “sincere condolences and sympathies” to the relatives and others who were hurt. The Federation reported that it is willing to assign its personnel and work side by side with the Indian investigators in establishing the cause of the crash and to avoid future occurrences.
To address the tragedy, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India has requested increased surveillance on their fleet of Boeing 787 airline (Air India) that consists of 26 B787-8 and seven B787-9 jets.
In the meantime, the Indian government has set up a senior-level probe panel led by the Union Home Secretary. It has been assigned to the committee whose task is to find the reasons for the crash and to present the results within the period of three months.
It is a first-of-its-kind cooperation with IFALPA, which will be an essential input of an international perspective on this matter, as well as technical expertise to assist India in its own investigation effort at this period of national grief and apprehension of air security.
