Digital Desk: As the world commemorates International Women's Day on March 8th, numerous actions are being undertaken to raise awareness of women's role in society and ensure their equality.
At one such endeavour, the food company Britannia Pvt. Ltd. has made the significant decision to increase women's employment in its northeastern factory, which is located near Guwahati, Assam.
The firm used International Women's Day to declare that the women's workforce in the Assam factory would expand to 65 per cent.
Wadia Group launched the plant at Rampur, which is near Guwahati, in July 2018. It's in the Kamrup district's Dhandula Rangamati zone.
According to a plant spokesperson, the firm currently employs 1,367 people on a regular and contractual arrangement, with women accounting for 60% of the workforce.
Women, according to officials, play an essential role in both societies and the FMCH (food movement consumer items) industry. Through different programmes, Britannia has always worked for the uplift and empowerment of women.
According to those working to promote a more inclusive atmosphere, women in leadership positions have made significant progress, particularly in the industrial sector.
The corporation has steadily grown the number of female personnel at its production facilities with time.
According to an official, the food business aspires to have 65 per cent of its employees be female by 2022.
It was also revealed that the Assam factory has a daily production capacity of 260 tonnes installed, with 210-240 tonnes being used at the moment. The plant produces six different products under the company's primary brands, including Marie Gold, Good Day, and Nutrichoice.
Although it is difficult to predict the exact number of people hired this year, women will undoubtedly make up 65 per cent of the total workforce, according to the official. The workforce's capacity will grow in tandem with the increase in demand for commodities.
