Digital Desk: A heartfelt tribute to Assam’s cherished cultural icon Zubeen Garg, took center stage on December 17 with the unveiling of a life-size statue at the Royal Global University campus.
The statue, an impressive creation by sculptor Lakhyajit Bora, was inaugurated by Prof. Pradip Acharya, an eminent poet, translator, academic, and critic of Assamese and English Literature.
The ceremony witnessed the esteemed presence of Chancellor Dr. A.K. Pansari, Vice Chancellor Prof. A.K. Buragohain, Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Chair Professor of the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creativity, Prof. Dhrubajyoti Borah, Advisor to the Chancellor, Zubeen Garg’s sister Dr. Palmee Borthakur, alongside distinguished guests, faculty, staff, and students.
In his address, Prof. Pradip Acharya hailed Zubeen Garg as a rare embodiment of art, conscience, and courage.
Referring to the musician as "the wanderer," he highlighted how Zubeen Garg’s music, deeply rooted in Assam's culture, transcends geographical boundaries to resonate with human emotions, social issues, and the collective aspirations of the people.
He also lauded Royal Global University for preserving cultural legacies through art and scholarship.
The event featured a heartfelt musical tribute in saxophone by Shri Sanjeev Rabha and a soulful rendition of Zubeen Garg's songs by Susanta Chowdhury, evoking profound emotions among the audience.
