Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment originated from Myanmar
Digital Desk: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking networks in the North Eastern region, with a major seizure reported from Manipur.
On 28th March , 2026, acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation was carried out by the NCB in coordination with the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force, and Assam Rifles. During the operation, two vehicles, a Scorpio and a Mahindra Camper, were intercepted.
A thorough search led to the recovery and seizure of 207 soap cases containing heroin, weighing approximately 2.625 kilograms. The estimated value of the seized contraband in the illegal market is around ₹5.5 crore. Two people have been arrested in connection with the case.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment originated from Myanmar, highlighting the region’s vulnerability as a transit corridor due to its proximity to international borders.
Officials stated that the NCB has carried out several significant seizures in Manipur in recent months, in collaboration with state police and central armed police forces.
Further investigation is currently underway, and follow-up operations have been launched to identify and apprehend other members of the drug trafficking network. The NCB reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling narcotics syndicates and protecting the North Eastern region from the growing menace of drugs.
