West Bengal: It was an easy win for Mamata Banerjee, who even after series of violence, during and after assembly by-polls, for which the Election Commission of India had arranged for a three-tier security system, secured her Chief Ministerial seat.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee secured the Bhabanipur constituency by beating her BJP rival Priyanka Tibrewal by more than 58,000 votes on Sunday, Election Commission of India announced.

Election Commission of India (ECI) reported, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee gained 84,709 votes while Priyanka Tibrewal bagged 26,320 votes.  On the other hand, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Srijib Biswas got 4,201 votes.

State minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay who won the assembly election from the Bhabanipur constituency in May vacated the seat after Mamata Banerjee lost the assembly election from the Nandigram constituency earlier this year.

Mamata was required to win to retain the position of chief minister’s chair.
