The lecturer apologized after the student called him out.

Digital Desk: The Manipal Institute of Technology in Karnataka's Udupi district on Monday barred a professor from teaching after he allegedly called a student a "terrorist." A video of the student criticizing the professor for labelling him a "terrorist" has gone viral.

The institute in the southern state's coastal region condemned the incident and ordered an investigation. According to an MIT official, "The lecturer has been barred from teaching in the future. An investigation team has been formed to look into the incident."

Because 'his name sounded similar,' the professor allegedly referred to a student as 'Kasab,' a reference to the convict in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

The lecturer apologized after the student called him out.

"How can you pass such statements?" the student asks in the viral video.

An argument follows the remark. The professor attempts to dismiss the student's shocking remark as a joke, but the student responds, saying, "26/11 is not funny... being Muslim in this country and facing such things is not funny. How can you call me a terrorist in front of the entire class? 'Sorry,' sir, will not suffice. It makes no difference how you present yourself here."

Reports indicate the professor later apologised to the student.
