Pragjyotishpur Medical College is the state's 14th and Guwahati's second medical college....

Digital Desk: In a major effort to improve the state's healthcare infrastructure, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday inaugurated the Outpatient Department (OPD) service at Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital, Guwahati. The project was built at a cost of approximately Rs. 500 crore.

CM Sarma inaugurated a slew of healthcare facilities on his birthday. CM Sarma said that the state government is planning to establish 24 medical colleges by 2029-30.

Taking to X, CM Sarma said, "A milestone in the state's health journey. Today, we launched OPD services at the Pragjyotishpur Medical College, Assam's 14th medical college in Guwahati. Being built at a cost of approximately Rs 500 crore, it will have 505 beds and will be a fully tech-driven health institute."

Attending the event CM Sarma said that the 14th medical college was inaugurated and decisions were being taken to build two new colleges in Bongaigaon and Biswanath.

Pragjyotishpur Medical College is the state's 14th and Guwahati's second medical college. He also said that the new medical college of Guwahati was established as the Guwahati Medical College was facing tremendous pressure because of the increasing patient load.

The new medical college has 505 beds and modern hostel facilities, and it is a fully tech-driven hospital. Addressing the attendees at the event, CM Sarma said that the new hospital was built with a special focus on corporate sector employees by offering flexible consultation hours.
