New Delhi: Union Minorities Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Saturday, slamming those criticizing the Centre’s decision to raise the minimum age of marriage for women from 18 to 21 years, said that the ‘Talibani thinking’ on women’s constitutional right will not be tolerated and continue in India.
Addressing an event here to mark ‘Minorities Day,’ Naqvi said, “Some statement surprises me. They say girls will turn rogue if married off at the age of 21. Why will they turn rogue? Don’t they trust them? Such a mindset can only be ‘Talibani,’ not ‘Hindustani.’ It will not be tolerated and continue in India.”
He added that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked towards Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas over the last seven years, ensuring significant reforms and inclusive development of all sections of the society, including minorities.

The Modi government has provided scholarships to more than 5 crore students from six notified communities- Parsi, Jain, Buddhist, Sikh, Christian and Muslim, with more than 50 percent of the beneficiaries being girls. This results in the decline in school dropout rate among the minorities, especially Muslim girls, he said.
Before 2014, the school dropout rate among Muslim girls was more than 70 percent, but now it comes down to less than 30 percent, Naqvi claimed.
