Digital Desk: Over 1,100 Indian troops serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) were honoured with UN medals for their excellent service in the war-torn East African country.

According to a news report posted on the UNMISS website, the 1,160 Indian peacekeepers currently serving in Upper Nile State were awarded UN medals "for their outstanding and multifaceted work," which included protecting civilians, performing engineering assignments, and providing health services to humans and animals.

According to the news source, Indian engineering soldiers have renovated critical highways in the state, including a 75-kilometer stretch from Malakal to Abwong via Baliet.

The Indian contingent is also "well known and adored" for its regular mobile veterinary clinics in various regions of Upper Nile State that provide veterinary care for cows, goats, donkeys, sheep, and other animals in the nation, which are otherwise rarely available to cattle owners.

According to the report, the vets recently treated 1,749 animals in Renk in just two days.
