Despite rising global energy prices, petrol and diesel rates remain unchanged
Digital Desk: Today, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has been increased by Rs 993. Moreover, in Guwahati the price will be around Rs 3,293 with effect from today, marking another hike in fuel costs. The revision was announced by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
In addition, the price of the 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder has been raised by Rs261 per cylinder with immediate effect. However, IOC clarified that there has been no change in the price of domestic LPG cylinders.
This is the third increase in the price of commercial LPG cylinders since late February, following global geopolitical tensions, including military developments involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Prices had earlier risen by around Rs115 in early March and by nearly Rs200 on 1st April.
Despite rising global energy prices, petrol and diesel rates remain unchanged. The Finance Ministry has also confirmed that existing excise duty rates on petrol and diesel for domestic consumption will continue as before.
The price hike is expected to significantly impact businesses that rely heavily on commercial LPG, including restaurants, cafes, hotels, street food vendors, and small enterprises. With input costs rising, many hotel and restaurant owners are considering increasing food prices to manage expenses, which could ultimately affect consumers.
Meanwhile, in Guwahati, smaller LPG cylinders have also become more expensive. The 5 kg cylinder now costs Rs869, up from Rs607 earlier.
In contrast, domestic LPG prices remain stable. In Guwahati, a 14.2 kg household cylinder continues to be priced at Rs 962, a rate unchanged since March 2026.
