Digital Desk: Raj Thackeray, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) head, appealed to his party's workers on Monday not to conduct the announced 'Hanuman Chalisa' on May 3 since he does not want to cause any problems for Muslims during the Eid festival.
He
underlined that his anti-loudspeaker campaign was a societal issue, and that he
will reveal his future plans on Twitter on Tuesday.
"The
loudspeaker issue is a public-interest issue, not a religious one."
"I will inform tomorrow through my Twitter handle what else needs to be
done," the MNS president tweeted.
In
the midst of a political squabble over the use of loudspeakers at mosques, Raj
Thackeray warned on Sunday that if loudspeakers are not removed, the Hanuman
Chalisa will be played at twice the level of the Azaan (a Muslim call to
prayer) starting May 4.
The MNS
leader referred to the use of loudspeakers in mosques as a "social issue"
rather than a religious one, and vowed to stick to the May 3 deadline for their
removal.
Loudspeaker
is not a religious matter, according to Thackeray, but it is a national issue,
and he threatened that if they do not stop, we would also take a position.
