Digital Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been requested to conduct an investigation into the murder of actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician Sonali Phogat. Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, sent the request to Pramod Sawant, the chief minister of Goa, on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters in Panaji,
Sawant argued that the Goa police have conducted a comprehensive investigation
thus far and said that Khattar brought up the family of Phogat's demand for a
CBI investigation during their conversation.
"After all processes have been
completed, we will, if required, turn the case over to the CBI. However, the
Goa police have so far conducted a comprehensive inquiry, according to Sawant.
On Sunday morning, the Goa police
detained Ramdas "Rama" Mandrekar, an alleged peddler, bringing the
case's total number of detentions to five.
At the Grand Leoney Resort, where
Phogat and her colleagues were staying, Dattaprasad Gaonkar, the room boy, was
suspected of receiving MDMA from Manderkar. Gaonkar admitted to the police that
Mandrekar had supplied the narcotic.
To be clear, unless it is supported
by further evidence, a confession or disclosure statement made by any person to
a police officer is not admissible as evidence in court. The only admissible
evidence against an accused person is a confession made in front of a court.
On August 23, the morning of her
arrival in the coastal state, Phogat, a former TikTok star and Big Boss
contender, was brought dead to the St Anthony Hospital in Anjuna, north Goa.
She was in Goa with her team, and another crew from Mumbai was supposed to join
them there to make a film, according to reports. She was initially thought to
have died of a heart attack. On Thursday, however, a murder case was filed as a
result of the allegation made by Phogat's brother.
Sudhir Sangwan, the manager of
Phogat, and Sukhwinder Singh, a colleague, were caught on security camera
footage from the Curlies nightclub forcing Phogat to drink something with a
"obnoxious chemical" put in it. This led to their imprisonment.
While Edwin Nunes, the proprietor of Curlies' nightclub where Phogat spent her final hours, Gaonkar, and Mandrekar have been charged with sections under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Sangwan and Singh have been charged with murder, poisoning, and other crimes under the NDPS Act.
The bail application for Nue, who was detained by the police on Saturday, has been moved and is scheduled for hearing later today.
