Doctors said they were able to remove the battery from the stomach through endoscopy due to the timely intervention...

Digital Desk: It is common for toddlers to put everything in their mouth, and in one such case on the outskirts of Kerala's capital city, a two-year-old baby boy was rushed to the hospital after swallowing a battery from a TV remote. Doctors at the hospital came to his aid, successfully removing a battery and saving the little boy's life after careful medical assistance.

Gastroenterologist Jayakumar from the NIMS Hospital stated it was because of timely treatment that they were able to extract the battery from the stomach through endoscopy.

The toddler swallowed the five-centimetre-long and one-and-a-half-centimetre-wide battery used in the TV remote while playing with it.

"The child, Rishikesh, was taken here after his parents took him to a nearby hospital. When we found out what had happened, we immediately called the operating room and put the child under anaesthesia. The battery was extracted from his stomach in roughly 20 minutes. Things would have been much more difficult if it had been deposited somewhere else.

"The kid is now hale and hearty," said Jayakumar, who was supported by his team, which included Nihar.
