Digital Desk: Twitter, which was procured last week by billionaire Elon Musk, plans to lay off a quarter of its workforce in what is expected to be the first round of layoffs, according to sources.

According to a report, celebrity lawyer Alex Spiro, a long-time Musk legal representative, led discussions about the job cuts.

According to a regulatory filing, Twitter had over 7,000 employees at the end of 2021, with nearly 2,000 employees accounting for a quarter of the total.

Musk denied a New York Times report that he planned to lay off Twitter employees before Nov. 1 to avoid stock grants that were due that day.

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

According to Reuters, Musk fired Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, Finance Chief Ned Segal, and Legal Affairs and Policy Chief Vijaya Gadde after the social media platform completed a six-month $44 billion buyout saga on Thursday.
