Digital Desk: The state administration has approved a sex change treatment for a female Madhya Pradesh police constable, according to a top official on Tuesday.

Deepika Kothari, deployed in Ratlam district, is thus the second woman constable in the state to be granted permission for a sex change, according to Rajesh Rajora, Additional Chief Secretary (Home).

In an order published on Monday, the state home department declared that Kothari has a 'gender identity problem' and was authorised to undergo sex change based on medical evidence.

The order stated that there are currently no clear rules for authorising sex change for government employees.

It stated that authorization was granted in this case after getting an opinion from the Legal Department and in light of a Supreme Court ruling.

Following the order, after changing his gender, the policeman will no longer be eligible for benefits reserved for female employees.

According to officials, another female constable called Arti Yadav acquired a similar permit in 2021.
